Crimson / Red -

Crimson / Red (English: "Karmesin / Rot") is the ninth studio album by the British formation Prefab Sprout , which the founder and songwriter Paddy McAloon recorded and recorded in his own studio in autumn 2012 and together with his long-time sound engineer Calum Malcolm has produced.

McAloon did not write the ten tracks specifically for this album, but they were created between 1997 and 2010. McAloon selected them from his archive after he had missed the deadline for new song material agreed with the record company Icebreaker Records for health reasons. Although McAloon had not announced the release, the ten tracks were accidentally distributed on the Internet in June 2013 by the record company and named "The Devil Came A-Calling" as the album title.

The album title "Crimson / Red" is a text passage from the song "Adolescence". According to a statement by McAloon in an interview with BBC Radio 6 Music , the title refers to the Latvian-American painter Mark Rothko , who is assigned to Abstract Expressionism and is considered a pioneer of color field painting .
