Crimson Moonlight is a metal band from Jönköping , Sweden , which musically can be assigned to Black Metal , but represents Christian themes in the lyrics and ideology . The classification in a category is controversial, but the term " Unblack Metal " can be associated with them.

“Crimson Moonlight” refers to the divine sign of the Apocalypse according to the Bible ( Joel 3.4  EU and Rev 6.12  EU ).

history

In June 1997 the Swedes Elowsson and Stenmarker formed the band Crimson Moonlight. Stenmarker, who had previously played in the Death Metal combo "Obsecration", took over the guitar and keyboards , while Elowsson played the drums . Simon "Pilgrim" Rosén joined the band as the singer, while Alexander Orest took over the electric bass and keyboard. In the same year the demo tape Glorification of the Master of Light was recorded.

In 1998 the EP Eternal Emperor and the live album Live in Värsås were released , as well as the addition of guitarist Jonathan Jansson and bassist Simon Lindh, since Orestes only devoted himself to the keyboard from that point on.

At the end of 2000 Jansson left the band to concentrate only on “Sanctificia”. A replacement was found in Samuel Lundström. The following year, another demo called Heralding the Dawn was released.

In 2003 the band published the best-of CD Songs from the Archives - a compilation of the old material, e.g. B. from the Eternal Emperor - and incidentally also their first album entitled The Covenant Progress , on which the keyboards had been significantly reduced.

In spring 2005 their next album Veil of Remembrance was released . The band completely renounced keyboards. The EP In Depths of Dreams Unconscious was originally only available on the US tour in 2006, but was pressed again in 2007. Among other things, the EP was released as a version limited to 50 pieces with a picture folder made of handmade paper. In 2014 the single The Suffering announced the 2016 album Divine Darkness .

The band currently has a recording deal with Endtime Productions , while previously they were under contract with Rivel Records .

style

While the first demo and the first album still contained strong influences from melodic Black Metal , from " The Convenant Progress " the style became increasingly progressive. Influences from Death Metal and Progressive Metal no longer allow a categorical affiliation with " Unblack Metal ". The music is characterized by changes in time and tempo, a fast tempo and short, sometimes atonal melodies. The singing is guttural , amelodic and arrhythmic. Since Veil of Remembrance there has been no use of keyboards or dominant guitar effects.

The texts deal exclusively with Christian topics and often refer to biblical symbolism, metaphor and parables . Even spiritual visions are processed. The members are close to the Adventists . Accordingly, the content is strongly oriented towards eschatological themes and "spiritual warfare".

Crimson Moonlight is known for theatrical stage shows. The show used to be done with fake blood. The band celebrates the Lord's Supper during the concerts .
