A crinet ( English horse crinet ) is a historical European protective weapon for the neck of battle horses .

description

The crinet is usually made of steel. It is used in horses to protect the neck from blows with the sword or stabs with the lance during armed conflicts . The individual panels are semicircular in shape and connected to one another in an overlapping manner. The rivets of the fastener are loosely fitted to accommodate the animal's movements. The crinet extends from just behind the horse's ears to just before the saddle . Leather straps are attached to the head and end of the saddle with which it can be connected to the saddle and the horse's forehead . Some crinets have chain armor on the lower edge. There are different versions around the world that differ in material, design and decoration.
