Cristian Atanay Nápoles (born November 27, 1998 in Marianao , Havana ) is a Cuban athlete who specializes in the triple jump .

Athletic career

Cristian Nápoles has been competing in international triple jump competitions since 2014. He achieved a season best of 15.38 m. A year later he qualified for the U18 World Championships in Cali, Colombia. He arrived with the world best performance in his age group of 16.45 m. In the final he won the gold medal with 16.13 m.

Another year later, at the age of 18, he took part in the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. He jumped over 16 meters consistently throughout the season and won the silver medal in the final with 16.62 meters. In March 2017, he jumped the 17-meter mark for the first time in a competition in his Cuban homeland, which he then confirmed in other competitions. At the season highlight, the World Championships in London, he moved into the finals with the best width from his qualifying group, in which he finished fourth with a width of 17.16 m. In February 2018, he also jumped the 17-meter mark in the hall for the first time. A month later he entered the World Indoor Championships . There he could not confirm the distance with 16.70 m and finished ninth.

In the summer of 2018, Nápoles won the Central America and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla and the Ibero-American Games, the championship of the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries, in Trujillo, Peru. In 2019 he then competed at the World Championships in Doha. There he set a new personal best in the final with 17.38 m and thus finished fifth.
