from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cristin Claas (* 1977 in Bernburg ) is a German jazz singer . Her trio also operates under the same name , alongside Cristin Claas, consisting of the guitarist Stephan Bormann and the pianist , keyboardist and percussionist Christoph Reuter .

history

Despite early musical support, Claas only decided in her mid-twenties to make music her vocation. In 2002 she began to study jazz singing in Weimar. Three years later she moved to Leipzig, where she has since concentrated entirely on her own music. The band has existed since 2001, as a trio since 2002. So far, six albums have been made: Twilight (2003), Favor (2005 / Acoustic Music Records ), In the shadow of your words (2007 / Sony BMG), Paperskin (2008 / Sony BMG) , At times like this (2010) and 67 days (2013). Since it was founded, the band has been on concert tours very often and has earned a reputation as a live band.

music

In the music of the trio, echoes from pop , singer / songwriter and art song are often incorporated. Through joint projects with orchestras such as the Anhalt Philharmonic and the Central Saxon Philharmonic, as well as the band l'arc six, there are always points of contact with classical music , some pieces from these collaborations are also included on the Paperskin album.

The compositions of Cristin Claas are mostly song-oriented and do not have the jazz highly popular improvisational character. The band itself describes their style as "song poetry". Live, the pieces are enhanced by spontaneous elements, body percussion or sung announcements.

Texts

Cristin Claas' texts are mostly very lyrical and pictorial; Occasionally, poems like “ Heidenröslein ” by Goethe or songs like “ Der Mond ist risen ” are newly set to music in a very unique way. A special feature is that the texts are written in both English and German. The singer also uses her own onomatopoeic fantasy language.
