Cristofaro Caresana
Cristofaro Caresana (* around 1640 in Venice , † 1709 in Naples ) was an Italian baroque composer .
Live and act
After Caresana had studied in Venice under Pietro Andrea Ziani , he moved to Naples. There he was first active in the theater and opera company "Feblarmonici" , this troupe performed the first melodrama in Naples. In 1667 Caresana became organist in the court chapel and head of the Conservatorio S. Onofrio , a position he held until 1699. In 1699 he followed Francesco Provenzale as Maestro del Tesoro di San Gennaro . Cristofaro Caresana composed for various Neapolitan institutions and occasions until his death. His compositional work includes numerous cantatas, especially for the Christmas season.
