The Crooked River High Bridge is a two-lane road bridge over the Crooked River north of Terrebonne in the state of Oregon in the USA . The truss bridge was designed by Conde McCullough for the Oregon Department of Transportation and was part of US Highway 97 in Oregon until 2000 .
history
After the site search and investigation from spring 1924, the construction work by Kuckenberg and Wittman from Portland began in August 1925 and lasted until September 1926. The official inauguration took place on July 15, 1927. The increasing traffic on US Highway 97 in Oregon made it necessary to build a larger bridge in the late 1990s. With the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge , the new four-lane road bridge was put into operation upstream in 2000 in the immediate vicinity of the old one. The Crooked River High Bridge is now open to pedestrians and due to its location above the 100 meter deep canyon of the Crooked River , it is also used for bungee jumping . In Peter Skene Ogden State Park , the Crooked River Railroad Bridge, which was built downstream in 1911, now spans the canyon with three bridges.
description
The Crooked River High Bridge is a two-hinged arch bridge made of steel , which is stiffened by a truss to form a spandril and leads the roadway on the top. The arch has a span of 100.6 m and is supplemented on both sides by girder bridges made of reinforced concrete , which are 29.3 m long on the east side and 11.6 m on the west side. The girder bridge on the east side is divided into three segments by four supporting pillars. The total length of the bridge is 141.4 m with a width of 8.2 m. The bridge carries a 7.3 m wide concrete lane that is 20 cm thick. The superstructures are supplemented by a railing made up of many small arched segments, which is closed off on each side by rectangular pylons , also made of concrete.
