Cruz Laplana y Laguna

Cruz Laplana y Laguna (born May 3, 1875 in Plan (Huesca), † August 7, 1936 ) was bishop of the Catholic diocese of Cuenca in Spain.

After his ordination in 1898, he was appointed Bishop of Cuenca in 1921 . On March 26, 1922, he received the episcopal ordination through Cardinal Juan Soldevila y Romero . He held this office until his death in the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Together with his secretary, Fernando Español Berdié , he was shot by communists on August 7, 1936.

Prior to his murder, Cruz Laplana y Laguna addressed the following words to his murderers: “Do you think there is no heaven? My sons there is a heaven. Do you think there is no hell? My sons, there is a hell. You can kill me. I surrender my body to you. But my soul will go to heaven. I forgive you and will pray for you in heaven. "

On October 28, 2007 he was in Rome with other victims of the Spanish Civil War by Benedict XVI. beatified .
