The banded fall beetle ( Cryptocephalus vittatus ) is a beetle from the leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae).
features
The beetles are 3 to 4.5 millimeters long. They have glossy yellow colored wings on which two broad, black bands run lengthways. These begin at the almost smooth pronotum , but end before the wing tips. The wing top seam , which is also colored black, creates an elongated yellow "U" on each of the top wings. The black bands can be divided yellow across or converge at the end of the wings. The upper wings have longitudinal rows of fine points. The abdomen and the underside of the body are black; The head and pronotum are also colored black, the epipleurs on the sides of the wing panels are yellow.

Occurrence and way of life
The species occurs in large parts of Europe north to Denmark and the south of Sweden . It is absent in the British Isles . Their frequency decreases towards the north. Banded fall beetles live in dry places such as meadows or on the edge of fields. The adults fly from May to August and can be found on flowers, they especially prefer daisies , tansy , yarrow and broom . The larvae are found exclusively on daisies.
