Cub teagarden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clois Lee "Cub" Teagarden , also Cubby , (born December 16, 1915 in Vernon (Texas) , † 1969 Riverton (New York) ) was an American jazz drummer.

Cub was the brother of trombonist Jack Teagarden ( Big T ) and trumpeter Charles Teagarden ( Little T ). His sister Norma Teagarden was a pianist. The father died in 1918, and the children moved to Oklahoma with the mother (a ragtime pianist). He played in various Territory Bands and in 1939 in his brother Jack's Big Band ( Jack Teagarden and His Orchestra ), which was not a financial success. Most of the recordings date from this time. Cub played on the west coast in the 1940s, at times led his own band, played with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra and retired from the music scene in 1948 to work for a telephone company in Long Beach , California.
