Cuccìa

The Cuccìa is a traditional Sicilian dessert. The thick soup is only prepared on the night of December 12th and 13th for the feast of Saint Lucia .

There are different forms of preparation and ingredients depending on the region and family. The main ingredient is wheat , which, according to a legend, came to Sicily through Saint Lucia. According to the custom, seven different types of seeds should be consumed on December 13th. This also includes broad beans and chickpeas .

In the basic recipe, these seeds are soaked in water for three days. Then they are boiled in ricotta and reduced . Depending on your taste, there are also various ingredients such as candied pumpkin , grated lemon peel , orange peel , cinnamon and chocolate . Then the dish is poured with Vin Santo , holy wine.
