Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens
The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is an art museum in Jacksonville , Florida in the United States .
history
The museum was established in 1961 on the site on which the home of the married couple Arthur and Norah Cummer once stood. In addition to the museum buildings, the museum grounds include three flower gardens. The oldest of these gardens was laid out in 1903 and offers a view over the St. Johns River . It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2010 . In 2002 the museum acquired the neighboring, former Woman's Club of Jacksonville , whose building is a Tudor-style replica and which serves as an extension of the museum.
Collections
The museum's collections include over 6,000 works from 2,100 BC to the 21st century.
Exhibitions
- 1964: 16th Century French Art .
- In 2013/2014 the museum is showing the exhibition: The Art of Empathy: The Cummer Mother of Sorrows in Context , in which the Cummer mother of sorrows can be seen in connection with masterpieces from other museums. From the Abbey Museum of the city of Aschaffenburg , the diptych from 1470, Man of Sorrows and Mary, was shown.
