Curchorem , also Curchorem-Cacora , is a city in the Indian state of Goa . It forms a twin city with Sanvordem .

The city is that part of the South Goa District . Curchorem has Municipal Council status . The city is divided into 15 wards .

Demographics

The city's population is 22,730 according to the 2011 census. Curchorem has a gender ratio of 959 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 88.9% in 2011. Almost 67% of the population are Hindus , approx. 20% are Christians, approx. 11% are Muslims and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 10.5% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

economy

The city is a mining center in South Goa. The station is an important loading point for ores from the nearby mines. This ore is transported by trucks that drive the city streets for much of the day, causing dust and noise pollution and major traffic jams.

Infrastructure

Curchorem train station is one of the oldest in Goa. The Curchorem station is under the southwest railway line. This line was laid in 1880.
