Curt Matthew Kirkwood (born January 10, 1959 in Amarillo , Texas ) is an American songwriter, singer and guitarist. He was the front man and founding member of the alternative rock band " Meat Puppets ", which became internationally known through the MTV Unplugged concert with Nirvana in 1993.

Kirkwood grew up in Phoenix , Arizona . After playing in various mainstream bands, he started the Meat Puppets in 1980 with his brother Cris on bass and drummer Derrick Bostrom . The trio released eleven albums. They broke up in 1996, but Curt revived the Meat Puppets with Kyle Ellison (g), Andrew Duplantis (b) and Shandon Sahm (dr) to record another studio album (Golden Lies) in 2000 . He then toured alone for a while before forming the band " Eyes Adrift " with Nirvanas bassist Krist Novoselic and the drummer of " Sublime " Bud Gaugh . They released an album of the same name in 2002 and toured the US before breaking up. Curt then formed another band, " Volcano ", released an album again and then left. His solo album Snow was released in October 2005. In 2006 Cris and Curt got together again to bring the Meat Puppets back to the stage with Tim Alexander (previously Primus ). In 2011 the last album Lollipop was released for the time being .

Curt lives in Austin , Texas.
