Cyber terrorism
Cyber terrorism is a special form of terrorism that attacks computer systems with the help of Internet technologies . There are very controversial opinions about cyber-terrorism: Of those who are completely convinced of a permanent threat, in which horror scenarios with thousands of deaths due to incorrectly controlled lock gates, changes in the composition of drugs or even nuclear catastrophes by outwitting the security systems and manipulating the existing programs are feared , to the occasional warning to those who speak of mere " scare tactics " and consider cyber terrorism to be unreal.
The distinction between non-political criminal actions and activities with terrorist (i.e. political or religious-extremist) motivation, but also with nation-state (secret) warfare is sometimes difficult or impossible. In this context, a distinction is made between two subspecies of cyber-terrorism: pure cyber-terrorism, which works solely with computers and initiates purely virtual attacks, and terrorism, which uses computer technology to enable other attacks, to support them, to propagate them or even just for the intelligence service (electronic ) Ensures communication between the individual cells or their management cadres.
While the German Office for the Protection of the Constitution , for example , insists that the Internet is the central instrument for spreading propaganda and recruiting young terrorists, Stephen Cummings, head of the British authority for the protection of critical infrastructures , stated at a cyber security conference in London in mid-April 2008: "Cyberterrorism is a myth .
