Cyclone in Luna Park on Coney Island ( Brooklyn , New York , USA ) is a wooden roller coaster designed by Vernon Keenan and built by Harry C. Baker . It was opened on June 26, 1927.

Cyclone ran until 1970, but was then closed. In the spring of 1972, Cyclone was in danger of being dismantled to make way for the expansion of the aquarium to the east. But there was a Protect the Cyclone campaign, Astroland leased the property and reopened Cyclone on July 3, 1975. June 26, 1991, the 64th of Cyclones birthday, she became a National Historic Landmark ( National Historic Landmark appointed) and extensively renovated 2011-2015.

It is considered a model for some of the same type of wooden roller coaster built subsequently, such as the Texas Cyclone in Houston or Bandit in Germany.

Trains

Cyclone has three trains with three cars each. Eight people (four rows of two people) can be seated in each car.
