The genus Cyclorana , also called water reservoir frogs , belongs to the frogs (Anura) from the family of the Australian tree frogs (Pelodryadidae). It occurs with 14 species exclusively in Australia . Some authors treat the genus as a synonym for the genus Ranoidea and incorporate it into this genus.

particularities
The water reservoir frog ( Cyclorana platycephala ) and its relative Cyclorana occidentalis (Western water reservoir frog) can absorb and store so much water in its bladder and in the subcutaneous spaces through the skin that it looks completely puffy as an adaptation to dry weather phases. Aborigines take advantage of this by looking for the frogs and using the water to drink.
