CYNETART 09: Presentation of the preliminary rehearsals for one of the most important projects of CYNETART 2009, the European Tele-Plateau, which connects dancers in several European countries through a platform. Project name: "ETP_body-spaces09 - Exploration of Nearness & Distance", actress: Simone Model. Cynetart is a festival that has existed in Dresden since 1997 . Along with Ars Electronica in Linz, the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (ZKM) and transmediale Berlin, it is one of the most important institutions for contemporary media art in German-speaking countries. The festival is based on a special orientation in the area of ​​movement through dance and performances as well as the connection with new media , whereby the concept of new media is becoming increasingly blurred as it has established itself in everyday life. In the self-description of the festival, one speaks of "cultural reflection through computer-aided art". CYNETART is also the most important German festival for computer-aided performances as well as interactive installations and environments . The festival is organized by the Trans-Media-Akademie Hellerau (TMA) and is currently directed by Thomas Dumke. Until 2005 the festival was directed by Klaus Nicolai, who is currently the director of the TMA.

Festival type

Every two years the festival alternates between a program festival and a competition festival, which means that every two years winners are selected in certain categories from hundreds of submitted media art works. The previous winners include a. Works by the artists Holger Lippmann , Jan-Peter ER Sonntag , Wolfgang Bosse, Kerstin Ergenzinger and Charlotte Sommer-Landgraf can be found. In addition to the CYNETART prizes in various categories and the sponsorship award from the Saxon Art Minister, an artist-in-residence grant is also awarded by the Art Minister. The art minister's sponsorship award is a German specialty and is funded by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art in the amount of 10,000 euros. The same ministry, in cooperation with the state capital Dresden, is also funding the artist-in-residence program with an amount of 8,400 euros.

Name and spelling

The current name and the currently valid spelling of the festival are CYNETART. In its early years from 1997 to 1999, the festival was called COMTECart, based on an associated technology fair. Different spellings have been established over the years, including CYNETart or cynetART.
