Among other things, the academy organizes the internationally known media art festival CYNETART and operates the Trans-Media-Labor (TML) for the development, testing and application of virtual environments and audiovisual projects.

Club goals

In December 2001 on the initiative of the advisor for media culture of the city of Dresden, Dr. Klaus Nicolai, founded non-profit association, sees itself as an institute for integral perception and media research in which the linking of the disciplines psychology, brain research , cybernetics , interfaces , technology and art is to be promoted with the help of new media technologies .

activities

The association has organized the CYNETart , a media art festival in the Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden, every year since 1997 . Projects presented at the festival should stand out by integrating art, science and media technologies.

Every two years the TMA Hellerau announces the international CYNETART competition for artists and groups who integrate digital technologies into conceptual, creative and performative processes. In addition to CYNETART prizes, an artist-in-residence grant from the Ministry of Art is awarded.

The TMA has been organizing summer courses for three years and working with schoolchildren in interactive rooms and image-sound environments (virtual environments). The joint project in cooperation with the Technical University of Dresden and the European Union opens up new fields of learning and work in virtual space. In one-week summer courses, interactive dance productions and games are created across all ages and schools, based on completely new forms of collaboration between young people interested in music, science and technology.

The Trans-Media-Laboratory in historical buildings of the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau (architect Richard Riemerschmid ) offers rooms and technology for the development of integrative and cooperative media art projects. In laboratory-like situations, scientific and artistic work is to be brought together through cooperation and integration and the potential of media technologies for expanding the understanding of oneself and the world is to be explored. Projects developed in the TMA laboratory were presented at CYNETart and other well-known festivals and art institutions: Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, WRO Biennale in Wrocław, Dutch Electronic Art Festival (DEAF) in Rotterdam, enter Festival in Prague, Festival for modern dance in Strasbourg, Paris EXIT Festival ICA London .
