features

Cynometra beddomei is a tree that reaches a height of 20 m. The leaves were pinnate in pairs. They are 2.5 to 3.5 inches long and 1 to 1.5 inches wide. The stipules fall off early. The leaflets are arranged in three pairs, with the lower pair being smaller. The leaf margin is elliptical-ovate with asymmetrical sides. The tip of the leaf is blunt with a shallow incision. The leaf base is wedge-shaped and slightly beveled on the narrower side of the leaf. The midrib protrudes from the top of the leaf. There are 13 to 16 pairs of secondary leaf veins. The tertiary leaf veins are branched near the center. The inflorescence is axillary. The spherical legume is 1.3 inches long and had a vertical incision. She is lonely.

distribution and habitat

Cynometra beddomei is endemic to the Western Ghats in the Indian state of Kerala . It was found in the western part of the Agasthyamalai region in the southern Western Ghats and in the districts of Wayanad and Kodagu in the central Western Ghats. The species occurs along flowing waters in evergreen forests at altitudes between 500 and 800 m.

status

After several unsuccessful searches, the species was rediscovered in 1998 by a team from the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) in several locations in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad. The primary forest was largely replaced by forestry plantations.
