Cyprichromis is a genus of the cichlids (Cichlidae). All species of the genus live endemically in Lake Tanganyika in the open water near the Felslitorals and are mouthbrooders .

features

The species of the genus Cyprichromis reach body lengths of 8 to 15 centimeters. They are elongated and only slightly flattened on the sides. The body is covered with comb scales and colored very variably in all species. The rear edge of the caudal fin is clearly concave. Unlike the species of the genus Limnochromis , these species do not have a spot on the gill cover . The pharynx has a number of pharyngeal teeth .
