Cyriacus Gericke
Cyriacus Gericke (* in Zerbst ; † February 8, 1551 in Bernburg ; also Gercke, Jarchen, Jerchen, Geriche, Jercken ) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Life
According to ancient traditions, Gericke is said to have been a monk and then an arcularis. One does not know how to assign the term arcularis. He is said to have joined the Reformation and become a student and friend of Martin Luther in Wittenberg . Then he went to Zerbst to the church of St. Nikolai , in between he seems to have stayed in Köthen in 1531 , where he turned down the position of superintendent for Göttingen.
He was then pastor and superintendent in Bernburg until the end of his life . For this purpose he acquired on September 6, 1538 the University of Wittenberg the licentiate in theology and was on September 9, 1538 for Doctor doctorate of theology. In 1538 he must have been dangerously ill, so that Luther wrote a letter to the city council of Bernburg. A print published by him in 1546 is known, "A Christian prayer for Chur and princes in Saxony and Hesse together with all Christian classes," which he wrote in rhymes.
