Cyrtopeltis is a genus of the soft bugs (Miridae).

distribution

Cyrtopeltis species are common worldwide and can be found mainly in warmer areas such as the tropics and subtropics . Some species live on cultivated plants ( tobacco , tomatoes ) and in this way have been established with the plants in many different areas.

Way of life

All species of the genus Cyrtopeltis live on different plants. There are phytophagous species that feed on the plants themselves (e.g. Cyrtopeltis nicotianae ) by piercing and sucking them, while others are predators and hunt insects on the plants (e.g. Cyrtopeltis varians and Cyrtopeltis geniculata ) .

For the species Cyrtopeltis nicotianae , which lives on tobacco plants , it has been proven that it can transmit a plant-pathogenic virus called 'velvet tobacco mottle virus' (VTMoV) to the host plants.

species

Within the genus Cyrtopeltis , a number of species are distinguished that can be found worldwide. The type species represents Cyrtopeltis geniculata , which was first described in 1861. The types include:
