Cytheres quadrille

The Cytheren Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 6). It was first performed on November 19, 1844 in Dommayers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The work was composed for a concert by the younger Johann Strauss in Dommayer's Casino and premiered there. It is one of the first concerts by the composer, who made his debut as a dance musician on October 15 of the same year at the same venue. The event on November 19, 1844 took place under the motto An Evening of Merriment . In addition to this quadrille, the waltz Serail Dances (op. 5) was premiered. The choice of title for the Quadrille is related to the motto of the event and the stage decoration. This referred to the ancient world of gods. Cytherea is the Latinized nickname of the Greek goddess Aphrodite .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 46 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
