Dändorf
Dändorf is a district of the Baltic Sea resort of Dierhagen , a municipality northwest of Ribnitz-Damgarten in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen .
history
middle Ages
The first written mention of Dändorf comes from the year 1356. Older records also mention Dänendorf , Dendorf or Dendorff , which indicates that there was a Danish settlement here as early as the 13th century . The suffix -dorf , on the other hand, indicates a German-speaking settlement.
18th century
In the 18th century the salt route led from Bad Sülze via Dändorf to Wismar and Schwerin . The salt on the Recknitz and Saaler Bodden was transported to Dändorf in flat, almost 20-meter-long boats (the Prahmen ) . From here we went to the coast of Dierhagen by cart and later by cart. With the help of trap boats, which were later replaced by yachts, the onward transport to Wismar took place. Dändorf benefited from this function as a transshipment point. The village street was paved so that the salt transports would not get stuck in bad weather. This street is still preserved today and registered as a monument.
19th century
In the 19th century the rural character of the settlement changed due to increasing shipping. In the 1830s, 49 seamen lived in Dändorf. It experienced its heyday between 1860 and 1870. At that time it was considered one of the richest Mecklenburg villages. According to tradition, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II called Dändorf “my gold village”. In 1867 the first privately run navigation preparatory school was established, in which seafarers learned their knowledge in the winter months in order to subsequently acquire their officers ' licenses. However, the emergence of steam shipping put an end to the village's wealth. In 1892 only 17 ships led by Dändorfer captains are listed. The school had to close due to lack of demand, but it also enabled socially disadvantaged people to take part in the comparatively inexpensive classes. The building was demolished in 1970; the historic house was destroyed in a lightning strike and a subsequent fire in 1985.
20th century
In the search for new sources of income, they orientated themselves on the emerging bathing culture in Dierhagen and Wustrow and also offered overnight accommodation. The first bathers were recorded for 1902, three years later there were already 267 summer visitors. In 1938 the districts of Bollhagen and Neuhaus are incorporated . After the end of the Second World War, tourism continued to flourish. By investing a camp ground in Bollhagen and a FDGB holiday home joy in Neuhaus 1960 some 15,000 tourists were registered. In 1959 the only windmill in the village burns down when the wings tear themselves loose in a storm, run hot and sparks ignite the building.
In 1965 Dändorf was incorporated into the municipality of Dierhagen.
