Life

Lukumuena was the fourth of five children and grew up in Épinay-sous-Sénart ; her parents come from the Congo and came to France in 1989. The father left the family when Lukumuena was six years old. After finishing school, she began studying literature at the Sorbonne with the aim of becoming a teacher. She concluded it with the License de lettres.

The series The Tudors sparked her interest in cinema and acting. Almost by chance, she applied to an advertisement in which a black actress for the film Divines of Houda Benyamina was sought. Even from her family, she kept the audition a secret until she was accepted. There were nine months between the start of the casting and the acceptance of the role.

For her role as the young dealer Maimouna in the film Divines , she and Oulaya Amamra were awarded the Lumières Prize in the Best Young Actress category. In 2017 she surprisingly won the César in the Best Supporting Actress category . At 22, she is the youngest actress in the category and the first black actress to win the award in the category.
