Dölf Mettler

Dölf Mettler or Adolf Mettler (born May 22, 1934 in Wildhaus , Canton St. Gallen ; † October 15, 2015 ) was a Swiss yodeler , composer , choir director and peasant painter .

Mettler completed an apprenticeship as a textile draftsman. Since 1959 he has belonged to the Yodel Club Friendship Flawil and the citizen gymnast Chörli St.Gallen . He became a member of the Arizona Dance Orchestra (renamed Kramer-Six in 1965 and Jokers in 1970 ).

From 1972 Mettler also worked as a composer. More than one hundred and sixty yodelling songs, choral works, duets and trios were written. In 1974 he gave up his profession as a textile draftsman to work as a peasant painter.

From 1973 he founded and directed several choirs, including (1974) the amateur singers Appenzell and the Schötzechörli Stein . From 1982 to 1997 he was a member of the music commission of the Appenzell Singers Association . From 1984 to 1994 he led the Singmeedle Appenzell women's choir , which he founded , and then the Appenzeller Wurlitzer vocal quartet .

Mettler was awarded the Golden Tell and in 1998 the Golden Treble Clef for his musical merits . In 2009 he was awarded the Innerrhoder Culture Prize.

The Swiss National Sound Archives lists over 140 recordings, where he either participates or where his compositions have been recorded.
