Düren Gate (Nideggen)
The Dürener Tor is a city gate in the east of Nideggen in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is located on the street “Im Altwerk”.
The Düren gate is a two-storey double tower gate with shells and single stepped pointed arch portals. It has a passage with a pointed barrel and a pointed arch niche on the right. The city gate has uniform rectangular windows. In the left central part there is a staircase that is accessible from the city side. The central building has a transverse hipped roof . The flank towers have conical roofs .
The gate was built in the first third of the 14th century as part of the city fortifications . From 1583 the building fell into disrepair. In 1765 it was demolished except for the basement. The upper floor was reconstructed from 1892 to 1896. In 1949 the Düren Gate was restored.
