The DB series 1004 is a series of hybrid shunting locomotives that Deutsche Bahn ordered from the Chinese manufacturer CRRC in 2018 . According to the framework agreement, up to 20 pieces are to be procured. The unit price should be around 2.5 million euros.

The first two locomotives BR 1004 in traffic red are to be used on the S-Bahn in Hamburg. More locomotives BR 1004.5 in yellow are to run in Berlin.

Currently (as of May 2020) technical tests are being carried out for the approval process.

Technical Equipment

The vehicle has a narrow vehicle gauge so that it can also drive in tunnels. It draws its drive energy either from a diesel engine, from a power rail or from a lithium-titanium battery. The maximum speed is 100 km / h. The locomotives are equipped with point train control (PZB), the European Train Control System (ETCS) and the train control system S-Bahn Berlin (ZBS).
