DBKom is a former company of the Deutsche Bahn Group and was then responsible for telecommunications tasks. In 1996, DBKom generated sales of around DM 1 billion.

The DBKom has the train self terminal equipment (BASA), the telephone network of Deutsche Bahn AG adopted. It had a nationwide, modern fiber optic network with a length of around 40,000 kilometers and 300,000 connections, which in 1997 was the second largest telephone network in Germany after that of Deutsche Telekom .

DBKom started modernizing 5,000 kilometers of pipeline network in August 1996; Fiber optic cables worth around 200 million German marks (approx. 100 million euros ) were laid.

In June 1996 Deutsche Bahn AG sold 49 percent of its telecommunications subsidiary DBKom to Mannesmann or to the joint telecommunications subsidiary of Deutsche Bank AG and Mannesmann AG, Communications Network International (CNI).

Today, the telecommunications network is again owned by the railways or by the subsidiaries DB Systel GmbH and DB Netz AG. Services on the telecommunications network are largely taken over by the subsidiary DB Kommunikationstechnik .
