DCF (callsign)

DCF is the call sign prefix of some of the Media Broadcast GmbH in long wave -powered transmitter . The abbreviation DCF is always followed by a sequence of digits to differentiate between the transmitters. The transmitters were operated by the Telekom subsidiary T-Systems until the end of 2007 and are now owned by Media Broadcast GmbH .

Five transmitters with the prefix DCF are currently in operation. These are described in more detail below.

DCF39 and DCF49 (radio ripple control)

DCF39 and DCF49 are radio services operated by Media Broadcast GmbH on behalf of the European Radio Ripple Control (EFR) for the remote control of electrical consumers (e.g. street lamps) and for tariff and load control at energy supply companies .

  • DCF49: 129.1 kHz , transmission power: 100 kW , location: Mainflingen

DCF42 (DGPS)

DCF42 was the call sign of the DGPS service ALF operated from Mainflingen in the long wave range on the frequencies 122.5 kHz (carrier only) and 123.7 kHz by Deutsche Telekom AG in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy , which enabled highly precise position determination . However, this service was discontinued in late 2005. In the past, the callsign was also used to transmit press releases.

DCF60

DCF60 is the call sign of a long wave transmitter operated by Media Broadcast GmbH in Mainflingen on the frequency 140.220 kHz.

DCF77 (time signal)

DCF77 is the call sign of a long wave transmitter operated in Mainflingen on 77.5 kHz, which supplies most radio-controlled clocks in Germany with the exact time. The transmission power is 50 kW. The time signal is controlled by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt . In addition, weather forecasts for many parts of Europe are transmitted by the company HKW-Elektronik GmbH under the brand name "Meteotime".
