The DDS - The German School is an educational science magazine and appears four times a year. It is published by the Education and Science Union (GEW).

aims

The magazine should contribute to the scientific foundation and orientation of current discussions and developments in education . The German School sees itself as a connection between educational scientists who deal theoretically and conceptually as well as in research and training with the education system, and those who work in the practice of educational institutions , especially in management positions, and / or politically and administratively at all levels are responsible. It is committed to the principles of fairness in education and equal opportunities.

The DDS - The German School is intended to prepare and convey scientific knowledge that can promote the democratic development and quality of educational institutions and educational processes and contribute to the further development of the educational professions. This also includes basic and educational history texts.

Content

Each issue usually includes a thematic focus as well as further articles from science, educational policy and pedagogical practice, references to research projects and reform approaches as well as reviews and conference reports. The individual articles of the DDS - Die Deutsche Schule contain a German summary and an English abstract. All specialist articles undergo an external review in a double-blind process by volunteer reviewers.

Managing Director of DDS - The German School is Martin Heinrich based at the Leibniz University Hannover / Institute for Educational Science. The editorial team is headed by the managing editor Isabell van Ackeren. The Scientific Advisory Board is appointed by the editor and accompanies, evaluates and advises the editorial staff.

history

The DDS - The German School was published for the first time in 1908/1909 by Julius Klinkhardt for the German Teachers' Association . For many years, Carl Pretzel , Sebastian Haffner's father , was the editor. Under the National Socialist Kurt Higelke it was ideologically harmonized . After 1945 at Juventa Verlag . "DDS - Die Deutsche Schule" has been published by the science publisher Waxmann since 2009 (year 101) .
