history

The women's ice hockey club Dragons Klagenfurt was founded in 2000 from a private initiative and initially only played friendly games and hobby tournaments. Due to the good game results and the development of the team, the board decided in 2001 to register the club for the women's ice hockey Bundesliga (DEBL). In the first Bundesliga season , the Dragons reached the play-offs and ultimately took third place with seven participants. In the following two seasons the DEC continued to occupy third place before the first runner-up in 2006 was reached.

From 2004, the club took part in the EWHL as one of the founding members and occupied lower places in the following years before retiring from this league in 2007. As a result, the DEC concentrated fully on the Bundesliga and state championship, which resulted in the first DEBL championship title in the club's history at the end of the 2007/08 season . Since 2008 the DEC has not been able to build on this successful season and mostly occupied lower positions in the DEBL.

The club's offspring took part in the 2nd division of the Bundesliga for the first time as DEC Dragons II in the 2006/07 season and took third place out of four participants. In the following season the second DEC team won the championship of the 2nd division. In 2010, the youth team withdrew from the second division.
