DEMIRA , originally DEMIRA Deutsche Mine Clearers , is an aid organization with a focus on humanitarian mine clearance and ordnance disposal . The association's headquarters are in Sauerlach . Martin Auracher (1969–2016) was the founder and chairman until 2016. After his death, the organization was, according to its own information, in the process of restructuring; in November 2017 the association DEMIRA e. V. founded in Sauerlach. Marcia Auracher-Hamzat is the chairwoman of today's DEMIRA.
Fields of activity
Over the years, other tasks were added to mine clearance and ordnance disposal. These include disaster relief, emergency medical care, the training of local deminers, the development of mechanical demining devices and the training of mine and explosive detection dogs. Informing and educating the civilian population about the dangers of landmines in the affected areas is also important. An Emergency Response Unit , consisting of doctors, paramedics, technicians and logisticians, is available for emergency aid and can be dispatched to disaster regions within a short period of time.

The association is a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband (regional association of Bavaria) and of Aktion Deutschland Hilft . The Foreign Office and the European Office for Cooperation of the European Commission are partners for foreign assignments . For example, the federal government financed the mine clearance operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Libya .
