history

At the end of the 1980s, the Rewe Group entered tourism and built up tourism as a further area in addition to its core business, the food trade.

The entry began in 1988 with the purchase of Atlas Reisebüro GmbH and the expansion of the agencies. In 1995 ITS Reisen was taken over by Kaufhof AG . After the success of ITS Reisen in Germany, the direct marketer ITS Billa Reisen was founded in Austria in 1998 . In 2000, the Rewe Group took over Deutsches Reisebüro GmbH (DER) from Deutsche Bahn AG, which included the tour operator DERTOUR , DER travel agencies and DER Business Travel . The Derpart cooperation partners and a majority stake (51%) in ADAC Reisen by DERTOUR were also added.

A year later, bought Rewe Group , the LTU Touristik GmbH with package tour operators Jahn Reisen , Tjaereborg and Meier's world travel and a stake in the airline LTU to 40%. In addition, the ATLAS REISEN franchise system was launched, TourContact GmbH was taken over by LTU Touristik and the travel agency service company (RSG) was founded. The founding of ATLAS REISEN Austria and the tour operator LTU Touristik led to the expansion of the Austrian market. With the founding of Rewe Travel New Media GmbH (RTNM), the operator of AVIGO , the tourism of the Rewe Group entered online sales. In 2002, LTU Touristik took a stake in the travel agency cooperation ProTours AG (25.1 percent) and the hotel operating company LTU Touristik Hotels & Investments was founded.

With the founding of the Russian tour operator ITourS with the ITS brand in 2003, LTU Touristik opened up the Eastern European market. In the meantime, REWE Touristik has withdrawn from the Russian market.

In 2006 the Austrian tour operator brands ITS Billa Reisen and Jahn Reisen Österreich were incorporated into the newly founded REWE Austria Touristik GmbH . The name of LTU Touristik GmbH was changed to REWE Touristik GmbH . After the loss-making business with LTU , Rewe Touristik sold its LTU shares.

In the following year, the operator clevertours.com was founded for direct sales, which acts for major customers and is represented on the German travel market with the brands Rewe Reisen and Penny Reisen .

Due to the continuing trend of "dynamic packaging" in tourism, the brands Tjaereborg INDI , ITS INDI and Jahn Reisen INDI were created from 2008 to 2012 .

In 2012, the organizer took over 51 percent of Exim Holding as , based in Prague. On June 22, 2015, the Kuoni Group announced the sale of its tour operator business to the Rewe Group.

renaming

On April 12, 2013, Rewe Touristik Köln GmbH was renamed DER Touristik Köln Gesellschaft mbH . This step became necessary due to the new and joint appearance of the entire DER Touristik. Since then, small tags with the note “DER Touristik” can be found on all publications of the sales brands.
