The DJK Abenberg is a sports club from the small town of Abenberg in Central Franconia . In the club's sports are aerobics , ladies gymnastics , soccer , handball , bowling , track and field , senior sport , skiing , tennis , gymnastics , walking and hiking available. There are also departments for belly dancing and mother-child gymnastics , as well as a crawling group and a brass music department . The association currently has 1,083 members (as of October 10, 2009).

history

The club was founded in 1920 as a Catholic sports club of the German youth force . With the ban on denominational sports clubs during the Nazi era , club life came to a standstill in 1935. It was not until 1958 that the club was re-established with the football, athletics and table tennis departments.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the club's soccer team played in the Central Franconian district league . The greatest sporting success was participation in the DFB Cup in 1978 . In the first main round, the team lost to Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98 1: 4.
