The DMT GmbH & Co. KG is an internationally active, independently operating engineering and consulting company based in Essen . Founded in 1990, DMT has been a subsidiary of TÜV NORD AG since 2007 , acts as an independent corporate brand within the TÜV NORD GROUP and bundles the Group's engineering and consulting services under the DMT brand.

The DMT Group includes a total of 16 engineering and consulting companies with around 30 locations worldwide and around 1,100 employees. The group's annual turnover is around 130 million euros. Today DMT achieves more than 50% of its sales abroad and works on more than 40 ongoing research projects in partnership with industry, research institutions and universities on an international level.

history

DMT GmbH & Co. KG has existed in its current corporate form since 1990. DMT emerged from a series of company mergers: DMT's roots go back to 1737 - the founding of the Märkische trade union fund. In 1864, the Märkische trade union fund merged with the Essen-Werdenschen trade union fund to form the Westfälische Berggewerkschaftskasse (WBK). The tasks of the WBK consisted in improving mining training and research in mining with the aim of making work in mining safer. The foundation stone for this was laid by the Bochum Mountain School and the geomagnetic control room of the Bochum Mining Authority.

In the decades that followed, the WBK developed through its research into a link between the state, universities, collieries and mining suppliers. As a result of the decline in mining, the WBK established the Steinkohlenbergbauverein company lines with Bergbau-Forschung GmbH, the Westfälische Berggewerkschaftskasse (WBK) and the Versuchsgrubengesellschaft mbH in the newly created Deutsche Montan Technologie für Rohstoff, Energie, Umwelt eV within this association in the 1990s Two societies emerged:

  • the DMT Society for Research and Testing mbH and
  • the DMT Society for Teaching and Education mbH, in which all training and further education centers merged and which today operates the mining museum and the Georg Agricola University in Bochum.

Today's DMT GmbH & Co. KG emerged from the DMT Society for Research and Testing, whose name is not an abbreviation for Deutsche Montan Technologie, but a proper name and does not correspond to the Deutsche Montan Technologie eV or DMT, which also still exists - Society for Teaching and Education mbH is to be confused.

organization

DMT GmbH & Co. KG operates 19 testing and specialist centers for safety, 17 of which are either accredited or officially recognized. In addition, around 100 recognized experts are employed at DMT.

Range of services

DMT provides engineering services in the main markets of plant & process engineering , construction & infrastructure , mining and oil & gas . The main activities include engineering , consulting , geotechnical engineering and exploration . In addition, the company develops and builds measurement and monitoring systems for use in various industries and manufactures test systems.

Geo engineering & exploration

In the “Geo-Engineering & Exploration” area, DMT brings together the skills and services required for the development, planning and monitoring of infrastructure projects: geotechnical engineering and subsoil exploration; Hydraulic engineering and water management ; Route engineering; Post-mining; Geomonitoring and engineering surveying; Land recycling and rehabilitation of industrial sites. Typical projects include, for example, the identification of risks during the construction phase of the Brenner Base Tunnel, which will link Austria with Italy in the future. At around 64 kilometers, the tunnel will then be one of the longest underground railway connections in the world. The tunnel will also be opened for car traffic. In order to identify risks during tunneling, DMT monitored and checked the rock for faults and separation areas so that suitable measures could be taken to optimize the protection of the tunnel during construction.

Mining Consulting & Engineering

In the mining sector, DMT supports investors , governments and mining operators along the entire life cycle of a mine. The services begin with the exploration and appraisal of raw material resources, feasibility studies, mining planning, investment studies and production planning. DMT also monitors the construction or renovation of mines and the associated facilities and is a partner for occupational safety, energy efficiency and environmental protection. If a mine is being renovated or closed, DMT is the point of contact for individual services or the entire decommissioning process. Typical services in this business area include the partial dismantling of shafts including the remediation of contaminated sites, such as at the Zeche Zollverein , the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Essen. Or the preparation of feasibility studies: DMT planned the expansion of an iron ore mine in Peru with a second opencast mine with the aim of doubling the capacity of the raw production to 10 megatons per year. In addition to the expansion, DMT also planned the dismantling and the transport systems.

industrial engineering

DMT plans and builds process engineering systems for coking plants as well as in the chemical and petrochemical sector. Building material systems are planned and built for mining, which pneumatically or hydraulically convey building materials and residues to the place of use and use them there. The rheological characterization and recipe development of suitable building materials is the basis of the system planning. The range of services also includes the intelligent machine diagnosis and monitoring system XSafe, which DMT developed for highly demanding areas of application (including industrial plants, mining, large wind turbines). This predictive online condition monitoring system is used to optimize operations and efficiently plan and carry out maintenance and servicing tasks.

Plant & product safety

In the area of "plant and product safety", DMT deals with the topics of fire and explosion protection as well as the safety of building services systems (e.g. air conditioning, drinking water, extinguishing and fire alarm systems) and product safety and quality. In various test laboratories, fire tests (e.g. on products from the construction, rail, shipping or automotive sectors) as well as filter and refrigeration system tests are carried out. In Bochum, DMT operates the “DMT testing laboratory for non-destructive and destructive testing”. Ropes that hold roofs, bridges or offshore floating cranes, for example, are checked here. At the Krefeld location there is a DMT test center for testing drive components such as B. Driven by wind turbines. DMT's experts, test engineers and technicians inspect systems, test products and devices, create safety concepts and offer consulting services.

Exploration Seismics

In the field of exploration seismics, DMT offers solutions for 2D, 3D and 4D reflection seismics on land and in shallow water as well as refraction seismics, vertical seismic profiling (VSP), data processing and modeling. DMT thus enables a view of potential raw material deposits or geothermal locations that is scalable in terms of accuracy and detail in order to assess the potential of a deposit and to be able to work out the most suitable development concepts from an ecological, economic and social point of view.

Products

DMT Pilot 3D: System for position and attitude determination, navigation and 3D documentation

DMT develops monitoring systems as well as testing and measuring devices for different fields of application, for example geomeasuring systems, monitoring systems and devices for flow measurement . In addition, the company offers services to optimize steel production. In the field of geomeasuring systems, the instrument portfolio includes geodetic , geophysical and geotechnical measuring systems. In the "Condition Monitoring" application area, DMT manufactures and sells the XSafe product family for condition monitoring of systems. In addition, with Safeguard, DMT has developed an online monitoring platform for the continuous and predictive monitoring of risks and dangers emanating from ground movements, vibrations, deformations or other structural integrity influences. The company also offers a special door system for coke ovens, which reduces emissions in the coking process. In addition, DMT is a manufacturer of synthetic test dusts which, among other things, simulate the characteristics of real house dust and which are supplied to the vacuum cleaner industry worldwide.
