DON (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DON (originally Sunny , later DON & ADONIS ) was a magazine targeting homosexual men, which appeared monthly from 1970 to 1984 and bimonthly until 1995.

Sunny

After the first reform of Section 175 of the German Criminal Code (September 1969) came into force, Sunny was published in May 1970 as the third magazine for homosexuals (after DU & ICH and Him ) and was renamed DON from issue 4 in October 1970 . By the end of 1972, the magazine changed publisher seven times and the editor four times.

DON

The publisher from issue 1/1973 onwards was the Darmstadt print shop owner Henry Ferling . From 1973 to 1975, shallow stories and cheap nudes dominated in DON, among others the author and translator Johannes Werres , who is controversial in gay circles, and the Hamburg doctor Dr. Willhart S. Schlegel . From June 1975 Michael Albert (pseudonym) wrote and designed the magazine, in which he only appeared from issue 1/1976 under the real name Jens MA Reimer , when he took over the conception, editing and design of DON. From issue 9/1976 Reimer's Munich office address was the seat of the DON editorial team. Since 1976 the magazine has gradually emancipated itself; slowly the magazine developed gay, social and political self-confidence. She also dealt critically with the behavior of homosexuals, the gay scene and the left-wing gay movement, especially the homophobic Catholic Church.

From issue 1/1980, Gerd Talis (Heidelberg) took over the DON editorial team. After a sharp drop in circulation, Darmstadt became the publishing and editorial headquarters again from the July 1983 issue; Jens MA Reimer once again named the imprint with a team of authors consisting of Robert Adler, Ejo Eckerle, Achim Ehlert, Dorin Popa and Peter Thaler , who vary from issue to issue . Jens MA Reimer disappears from the imprint and Dorin Popa (Herrsching) operates from the end of 1983 up to the double number 7 + 8/1984 with his address as the sole editor.

DON & ADONIS

From the double number 9 + 10/1984 DON appeared in FV-GmbH (Frankfurt / Main), see Foerster Media . From the double issue 9 + 10/1987 it was merged with the magazine Adonis and now called DON & ADONIS. With the double number 7 + 8/1995 Foerster discontinued the magazine.
