DR Byen is an above-ground metro station in the Danish capital Copenhagen , in the north of the Ørestad district . The station is served by the M1 line of the Copenhagen metro system . The name of the station is derived from DR Byen , the headquarters of the same name of the Danish radio ( Danmarks Radio , DR for short ), which has its headquarters in the immediate vicinity of the station. Originally the name of the station was supposed to be Universitetet because the University of Copenhagen wanted to build new buildings near the station. However, these buildings were built closer to the previous station Islands Bryggen, which is why the station got the name of the radio station.

The elevated station was opened on October 19, 2002 for the newly built underground section Vestamager – Nørreport.
