da capo is a German herb rock band from Fürth , Bavaria . They named themselves after the LP of the same name by the US group Love . This record was released in 1967 and enthused the group so much that they made the title their name - although the Italian term means "encore" and there was no da capo when it was founded. The first da capo performance was on January 6, 1970.

history

founding

The founding members were Peterreiber (guitar and vocals), Peter Wiesner (bass and vocals) and Gerhard Lorenz (drums). Some time later, Peter Stanek (guitar and vocals) was added as the fourth man; Jens Teichmann, who left it to Alfred Urban at the beginning of 1971, sat behind the drums.

The only long-playing record

In the early 1970s, all four band members felt the urge to release a long-playing record - with their own pieces. They didn't even try to find a label, but took everything into their own hands.

From December 26th to 28th, 1971, they recorded seven tracks in Gunter Tannhäuser's CPM studio in Erlangen. The genre of music is really underground, but with its West Coast echoes it leans heavily on the American role models, so it hardly sounds like German rock.

The shell was designed by Bernhard Küspert, who, together with Wolfgang Reinmann, looked after the da capo system. It was made in the printing shop where Alfred Urban worked. They commissioned the record itself from “Tempo” in Pullach near Munich, including assembly. At the beginning of April 1972 they received 452 copies for 1,426.35 DM.

The band was bitterly disappointed with the sound, however, an exchange was not possible. So they had to sell the album on their own. They sold the first hundred pieces for twenty marks each, mainly at their appearances. Some were given away among friends. They offered the record for three marks at the Nuremberg Trempelmarkt and managed to sell eighty pieces in one day. What was left - about half of the edition - they threw in the trash, because basically they were ashamed of the work.

The preliminary end

Nobody could last long as a drummer with da capo. After Alfred Urban, who left in the spring of 1972, several others tried there, including Raphael Maldonado from the USA. In 1974 da capo separated.

Reunification / the new edition of the long-playing record

In the mid-seventies, all four of the former members of the da capo LP gradually met again in the band "Make up" founded by Peterreiber and Alfred Urban and played their own progressive rock until 1978, albeit of a more melodic kind.

In 1988, a newly founded label from the Regensburg area contacted the musicians and acquired the publishing rights for a certain period of time. The previously unreleased piece of marijuana was used as a bonus track . The record was released at the end of 1988 as "Little Wing of Refugees LW 1001", thus the label's first release. However, as usual with Little Wing, the shell has been redesigned.

Nothing happened for the next 16 years: It wasn't until 2004 that there was another legal new edition (Amber Soundroom AS LP 031) on LP. Again with the same additional piece, but this time finally in the original cover with a new sheet.

"Garden of Delights" released a CD (109) with the bonus track Marihuana and an elaborate booklet in 2005 . In 2007 the city of Fürth celebrated its 1000th anniversary and da capo heralded this event on New Year's Eve 2006 together with other bands in downtown Fürth. The active trio, with Peterreiber, Peter Wiesner and Peter Stanek, hired a young drummer (Flo Schmitt) and asked Alfred Urban to return to the piece Love .

After that it was quiet again about da capo. With the help of Peter Treiber's son Philipp (PhilT), the foundation stone was laid for a new production from 2008 to 2010: 26 minutes out of walhalla . As a special treat, the full LP from 1971 was released as a bonus. This CD was published by Alfred Urban's music publisher “Happy Time” and was presented “live” in the Rundfunkmuseum Fürth on November 29, 2010 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the band . With the support of PhilT and Gerhard Kapp, da capo presented a “live acoustic set”.
