The Dachberg-Warte is a 22.7 meter high observation tower on the Dachberg near Emmersdorf an der Donau, built in 1975 .
On September 18, 1892, the Melk section of the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) opened a 17 m high wooden observation tower, which had to be removed after the First World War.
In 1975 the master builder Franz Leitner built a new control room on his property, which was initially not open to the public. The control room was in the administration of the ÖTK and open to the public from Easter 1991. The control room has been closed for security reasons since 2018.
The extremely light construction of the control room consists of an octagonal steel tube construction made of vertical iron rods each 18 m long and only 4.8 cm in diameter, which are connected to each other by horizontal iron beams. The frame is clad with corrugated sheet metal. 10 concrete steps lead to the entrance door at a height of 1.5 m. Inside the control room, 98 steps lead to the square viewing platform at a height of 19.5 m.
The waiting room offers an impressive view of the Wachau to Schönbühel an der Donau in the east and Pöchlarn in the west. Most impressive is the view of Melk Abbey on the opposite bank of the Danube.
