Dag Hammarskjöld Medal of Honor
The Dag Hammarskjöld Medal of Honor has been awarded by the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN) since 1977 . It is named after the former Secretary General of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld . The DGVN honors personalities who have made “outstanding services in promoting the solution of world problems through the United Nations system”.
The award is not to be confused with the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal , which was created on July 22, 1997 by UN Resolution 1121 of the UN Security Council. This honors police officers, military personnel and civilians who have perished during a peacekeeping and peacekeeping operation of the United Nations.
