Klaus Huefner

Klaus Hüfner (born January 22, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German educational scientist and economist as well as a former professor of economics at the Free University of Berlin ; he is known for his research on the United Nations .

Life

Hüfner passed his Abitur at the Humboldt School in Berlin-Tegel in 1958 and then studied economics , sociology and political science at the Free University of Berlin, at the London School of Economics and Political Science (1960/61), at the Graduate Institute for International Studies in Geneva ( 1962), at Princeton University (1964/65) and at the Technical University of Darmstadt (1966/67). He graduated in 1964 with a degree in economics.

From 1964 to 1974 he was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Educational Research , interrupted in 1970/71 by his work as Principal Administrator at the Center for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI / OECD) in Paris. From 1964 to 1995 he was a member of the federal executive committee of the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN), of whose executive committee he is still a member. In 1969 he received his doctorate . At the same time, he had lectureships at the Free University (1966 and 1975-77), the Technical University (1969/70 and 1972/73), the Berlin University of Education (1969/70), the University of Bielefeld (1972/73), later also at the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus (2003/2004) and the Technical University Dresden (2009 and 2013). He has been a member of the German UNESCO Commission (DUK) since 1971 . During this time he was a member of the board of directors from 1982 to 2010, vice-president from 1989 to 1998 and president of the DUK from 1998 to 2002.

From 1974 to 1980 he was a full professor for educational economics and planning at the Berlin University of Education. From 1980 to 2002 he was Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Economics at the Free University of Berlin. He then retired.

From 1975 to 1987 he was a member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) , from 1981 to 1983 as Vice Chairman and from 1983 to 1987 as Chairman. From 1981 to 2012, Hüfner was a member of the Presidium of the Berlin-Brandenburg State Association of the (DGVN). In 1989 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . From 1989 to 1993 he was Vice President of WFUNA and since 1993 he has been Honorary President there.

In 1998 he was awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal of Honor by the German Society for the United Nations (Bonn). In September 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Babes Bolyai University, Cluj-Nagoea (Klausenburg).

Since 2003 he has been a member of the Presidium of the DGVN, since 2004 an honorary member of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Germany eV (Quedlinburg), since 2006 Senior Research Fellow of the Global Policy Forum (New York), since 2007 Honorary Chairman of the Berlin Committee for UNESCO Work and since 2010 honorary member of the German UNESCO Commission

In 2011 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Teaching and research stays led Hüfner to the Stanford University , University of Melbourne , University of Osaka , Nagoya University and Tokyo Institute of Technology .
