Life

Adrian Koerfer was born in 1955 in Bern, the son of the entrepreneur and art collector Jacques Koerfer . His seven siblings include the film director Thomas Koerfer and the historian Daniel Koerfer . The Cologne architect Jacob Koerfer is his grandfather. After attending primary school in Switzerland, Koerfer switched to the Odenwald School in 1968 , which he left with the Abitur in 1975. During this time he said he was abused by various teachers, as he announced in an interview with the Frankfurter Rundschau. In 2010 he was briefly on the board of the school himself. As the first chairman of the Glass Breaking Association, he campaigns “for those affected by sexual violence at the Odenwald School”.

From 1975 to 1977 he studied at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1977 to 1979 Koerfer completed an apprenticeship as a publishing bookseller at Klett-Cotta Verlag in Stuttgart. He then studied German and art history at the Free University and TU Berlin until 1984 . In the following years up to 1993 he worked for Suhrkamp Verlag , Insel Verlag and Deutsche Klassiker Verlag as an advertising manager or authorized signatory. Today Koerfer works in the real estate industry.

Koerfer came into contact with works of fine art as a child. Numerous modern masterpieces with works by artists such as Pierre Bonnard , Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso hung in his parents' house . He built up his own collection, which he named Moon Studio , from 1982 onwards. He is on the board of the Friends of the Museum for Modern Art, Frankfurt am Main e. V. and was a member of the board of the Friends of the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt e. V. and the association Städelschule Portikus e. V.

The Mondstudio Collection

During his studies in Berlin Koerfer met the painter Ingo Meller , who initiated his collection and whose work he has been collecting ever since. In addition, the Cologne gallery owner Rolf Ricke is an important advisor to the collector. In 2008, under the name Mondstudio Collection , he showed around 80 works from his property in an exhibition entitled “There is desire left (Knock, Knock)” at the Kunstmuseum Bern and the Museum Wiesbaden . Koerfer chose the term moon studio to refer to "the underestimated function of the moon" and to caricature the term tanning studio. In 2010, again in the Wiesbaden Museum, he presented works by Alan Uglow from his collection. In addition, he is making some of his works of art available to the Kunstmuseum Bonn on permanent loan.

In total, the Mondstudio collection comprises more than 650 works that date from around 1960 to the present day. The collection includes both abstract and slightly representational painting, whereas there is a lack of realistic tendencies. The collector has also acquired a number of sculptural works and installations . In addition to works by well-known artists such as Gerhard Richter , Andy Warhol , Herbert Brandl , Alex Katz , David Reed , Jerry Zeniuk , Katharina Grosse and Joseph Marioni, there are also names such as Tim Ayres , Andreas Exner , Bernard Frize , Dadamaino and Günther Umberg in his collection.
