Joseph Marioni
Joseph Marioni (* 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio ) is an American painter .
life and work
Joseph Marioni's paintings are part of the Radical Painting Group in New York, with whom he primarily shares the intensive examination of the parameters of painting. The works by Joseph Marioni, which have been created in a characteristic manner since 1970, form a conceptually and aesthetically rounded oeuvre, on the basis of which fundamental questions about the genre of painting can be asked. In the field of tension between color, light and body of paint, Marioni creates almost monochrome works on canvas by repeatedly applying transparent layers of paint, which, depending on the incidence of light and the position of the observer, expose the underlying layers of color.
Joseph Marioni has been represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the USA and Europe. His works are represented in important private and public collections, e.g. B. Whitney Museum of American Art , New York , San Francisco Museum of Art , Kolumba (Museum) Cologne , Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg , Kunstmuseum Basel and Kunstmuseum St. Gallen .
