Rose left figurative painting very early and paints pictures inspired by color field painting. In the 80s he created monumental works in which he mixed the oil paint with graphite . The paint was applied with the finger, later with coarse industrial spatulas. This gives his pictures a great plasticity. Since the 1980s, Rose has more and more refrained from adding graphite, his works became more colorful, but still maintain their formal rigor to this day. In addition to his paintings, he has also created sculptures (usually made of painted wood) and graphics using various techniques.

Rolf Rose is a member of the German Association of Artists .
