Jörg Schindler (journalist)

Jörg Schindler (* 1968 in Darmstadt ) is a German journalist and winner of the Guardian Prize of the German daily press of the "Freedom of the Press" foundation in 2009.

Life

After graduating from Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in Darmstadt , Schindler studied German , English and sociology at the universities of Frankfurt am Main and Edinburgh . Schindler worked for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Frankfurter Rundschau . He has been working for Der Spiegel as an editor in the Berlin office since 2012 .

In 1999 Schindler reported for the first time about the sexual assaults of teachers, especially Gerold Beckers , at the Odenwald School , which became known at the time . For the report he received an outraged letter to the editor from old school spokesman Florian Lindemann and other media scolding. When Schindler reported on the abuse cases again in the FR in 2010, he triggered a lot of media coverage.

In 2009, Schindler received the Guardian Prize together with Matthias Thieme for his research into non-transparent procedures used by the children's aid organization Unicef ​​Germany for soliciting and controlling large donations. These articles appeared in the Frankfurter Rundschau . In 2014 he received the Henri Nannen Prize for Best Investigative Achievement for “Chancellor Cellphone im US-Visier?” (Published on Spiegel Online on October 23, 2013 and in Der Spiegel on October 28, 2013) together with Jacob Appelbaum , Marcel Rosenbach and Holger Stark .
