Dagobert Müller von Thomamühl (born June 24, 1880 in Trieste , † January 10, 1956 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian naval officer and inventor.

Life

Dagobert Müller-Thomamühl attended secondary school in Pula from 1890 to 1895 and the naval academy in Rijeka from 1895 to 1899 . In 1900/1901 he took part in the circumnavigation of the SMS "Donau" as a midshipman. From 1904 to 1918 he was the commander and flotilla leader on torpedo boats and destroyers. In 1910 he founded the diving school of the Austrian Navy and was the first non-armored diver to reach a depth of 64 m in the Mediterranean.

Müller-Thomamühl designed directional controllers for torpedoes and torpedo search devices and built the first air-cushion torpedo speedboat in 1915 . He founded the torpedo command in the Austrian Navy and made tests with aircraft torpedoes in 1918. He was also the inventor of the light barrier . This device was ready for use in 1916 and was patented in Austria in 1924. In the inter-war period, Müller-Thomamühl built a car factory in Maribor and several hydroelectric plants in Croatia. Until 1945 he ran a technical office and a trading company representing shipyards and marine technical equipment.
