Dahanu is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The city is located on the west coast of India and borders the Arabian Sea .

The city is part of the Palghar district . Dahanu has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 23 wards . It had a total of 50,287 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 25,790 were men and 24,497 women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of over 82%, followed by Muslims with over 11%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 84.66%.

Dahanu is an ancient city with a long history. It was probably settled around 500 AD and was long under the influence of the Arabs, Marathas, Portuguese and British.

In the city is the Dahanu Thermal Power Station , which is operated by the Adani Group . The construction of an overseas port is planned, but has not yet been realized.
