Gautam Adani

Adani Group is a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Ahmedabad , India , which was founded in 1988 as a commodities trading company by today's Chairman Gautam Adani .

His business areas include raw materials , logistics , the agricultural sector and energy supply . The group is India's largest port operator and owns, among other things, the country's largest commercial port in Mundra . Fortune India's largest cooking oil brand is still owned; this is a joint venture with Wilmar International in Singapore. The group is listed on NSE India under the name of the Holding Adani Enterprises (ADANIENT).

Carmichael Mine

Adani is currently building one of the largest coal mines in the world, the Carmichael coal mine, in the Galilee Basin in Queensland . The mine will consist of five underground mines and six open-cast mining sites, in which up to 60 million tons per year may be extracted. According to estimates, 2.3 billion tons of coal could be mined in 60 years to be used for the power supply in India. The coal is to be shipped by rail to Abbot Point harbor and from there to India.

To transport the coal by ship, a canal has to be dredged through the Great Barrier Reef . This world largest continuous coral reef in the world as a UNESCO - World Heritage listed and severely attacked by environmental change and human influences. Adani initially intended to dredge 38 million m³, only 3 million were approved.

Since, after criticism from environmental associations, residents and indigenous groups, the four largest Australian banks, other international banks and the Australian state do not want to support the financing of the project, Adani’s project was greatly reduced and instead of the approved 60 million tonnes, only 27 , 5 million tons of coal are mined each year.
